Ops-Core (now part of Gentex Corporation) created the FAST helmet design that has become the visual and functional standard for US Special Operations since its adoption by SEAL teams and Army Special Forces in the late 2000s. The high-cut profile, ARC rail system, and Team Wendy Fit retention have been widely copied but the original remains the reference.
The FAST's high-cut exposes the ears — a deliberate design choice. High-cut allows communication headsets (Peltor ComTac, MSA Sordin) to seat against the ear without being blocked by the helmet shell. For operators who use hearing protection/communication systems, the high-cut is not a compromise — it's an enablement.
Ops-Core's ARC rail is the de facto standard for helmet accessories. Every NVG mount, light mount, camera system, and accessory made by major manufacturers includes ARC rail compatibility. The ecosystem advantage is real — no other helmet system has equivalent accessory depth.
