HESCO's 800 series are pure polyethylene Level III plates at 2.4 lbs each — the lightest rifle protection available. For operators where weight is the primary constraint.

HESCO's 800 series represents the lightweight end of their armor portfolio: pure UHMWPE (polyethylene) construction, Level III rating, and 2.4 lbs per plate — approximately 65% lighter than steel and 35% lighter than ceramic Level III+ alternatives. For operators who carry heavy loads and need to minimize armor contribution to pack weight, this is the relevant platform.
Polyethylene plates work by plastically deforming around the bullet, capturing it in the plate matrix. Unlike ceramic, poly plates can handle multiple hits in the same area — the deformation is cumulative rather than shattering. The tradeoff: poly has more limited AP protection (Level III, not Level IV) and some Level III+ rounds can defeat PE plates.
Lightweight polyethylene plates are used by military operators who prioritize mobility over maximum protection. Special Forces operators on long-duration missions often choose ESAPI-equivalent PE plates to reduce total kit weight.
